Aramean people: Aramean people (not to be confused with ‘Armenians’) speak Aramaic, the language spoken by Abraham, Moses and Jesus. They are the indigenous people of what was called in ancient times Aram- Nahrin, in our days it is called ‘Mesopotamia’. Some Arameans today identify themselves with “Assyrians”, because of the spiritual colonial hate generating activities of the Western missionaries and diplomats in the Middle-East in 16th and 19th centuries. Other Arameans became known as “Chaldeans”. However all of them are Arameans. In Turkey, the Arameans are called: Süryani. In Arabic they are called Al- Suryan. Letter of Mgr. J. Y. Cicek to Mgr. Matta Rohom 23.01.2005
English 23.01-2005 11/05
To His Highness mor Eustatius Matta Rohom Archbishop of Cizira and Euphrates, respected high.
Greetings, respect and (brotherly) kiss in de Lord:
I have read two long letters of you which you sent by fax; the fist letter on 14-1-2005 and the last one on 22-1-2005 and I have noticed the heavy harsh tone (in your letters); for this reason I want in short to give a answer to Your Highness:
You know very well what you wrote about the diocese of Central Europe and by means of 8 (cassette) tapes, in particular in the first, second, fifth, seventh and eighths tape the view of the committee bishops are being represented, which are far away from the truth, and they do not contain the view of the clergy and church councils of the archdiocese of central Europe. The formidable answer on these tapes we sent to you on 3-1-2005. You should not be surprised when clergy and church councils of the archdiocese will inform the people about (your) hostility against this faithful diocese which you in particular have demonstrated by your views. One (the people) cannot control themselves; however by means of writings and their own signatures they will answer and this will be send to His Holiness patriarch and the bishops.
It was not the clergy and the church councils of the diocese the cause that I didn’t attend your meetings which you held together with them within the archdiocese. However from your side it became very clear to me not to attend your meetings, so that you would have the opportunity to work on what you had in your mind regarding fragmentation of the archdiocese. I want to remind you of your promise which you made with the clergy and church councils when you were in Holland: And what did you write about this faithful diocese when you returned to home?
The Lord willing, everything will be explained at the Holy Synod which shall take place on 23-3-2005.
One of the Church fathers says: jealousy punishes the envious one: and nothing happens with the faithful.
Remain healthy in the Lord and His mercy be upon all of us.
Julius Yeshu Cicek Metropolitan of the Syrian orthodox for Central Europe.
